Care home operators and groups
1,578 multi-home care operators across England, with portfolio size, bed stock and rating profile. The view a buyer, lender or investor reads before an acquisition, refinance or consolidation.
The UK care home market is consolidating, with well-capitalised investors increasingly buying platforms and whole companies rather than single homes. We track every multi-home operator CQC registers in England, the portfolio size, bed stock and rating profile that frame a covenant. We arrange the finance behind these moves: portfolio acquisition, whole-company funding, refinancing, development capital and sale-and-leaseback.
This is finance for the operator and the asset, not help with paying care fees. The operators below are listed largest by bed count.

UK care home operators: common questions
Who is the largest care home operator in the UK?
By the bed stock we track from CQC data, Care UK Care Services Limited is among the largest, with about 219 homes and 14,905 registered beds. The picture shifts as the big REIT-backed groups acquire portfolios, so the ranking here reflects the latest CQC snapshot.
Who are the big five care home providers?
The largest groups by registered beds in our data are Care UK Care Services Limited, Barchester Healthcare Homes Limited, Care UK Community Partnerships Ltd, Anchor Hanover Group, HC-One Limited. Names such as Barchester, HC-One, Care UK, Bupa and Avery dominate the upper end, several now backed by healthcare REITs after recent consolidation.
Who owns the majority of care homes in the UK?
No single group does. The market is highly fragmented: we track 1,578 operators running two or more homes, and the ten largest hold only a modest share of the national bed stock. That fragmentation is exactly why platform and whole-company acquisition dominates sector M&A.
How many care home operators are there?
CQC registers thousands of providers in England. We list 1,578 operators running two or more care homes; the long tail of single-home operators is far larger again.
